First Time Attendees Guide
Thank you for considering attending ASHG 2025! If you are new to the ASHG Annual Meeting, please review the below to help you navigate the week.
We are excited to bring the ASHG 2025 Annual Meeting to Boston, Massachusetts, from October 14-18. Over the course of 5 days, the meeting will cover a broad spectrum of topics including new technologies, applications, and research to showcase the most compelling human genetics and genomics science of the year. It is a perfect place to present or learn about cutting-edge research findings while uncovering new insights as we continue to advance the field.
We encourage to submit your latest research by June 9, 5pm ET for programming at the ASHG 2025 Annual Meeting. If accepted, your abstract will get programmed as a plenary, platform, poster, or lightning talk presentation.
Additionally, The American Journal of Human Genetics (AJHG) and Human Genetics and Genomics Advances (HGGA) have agreed to send for peer review all manuscripts submitted to the journal(s) by ASHG members who presented their manuscript’s findings in a plenary or platform talk at ASHG 2025. Note that acceptance is not guaranteed.
Apply for these merit-based awards by submitting an abstract by the June deadline:
- ASHG Trainee Research Excellence Award – Merit-based travel awards for predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees ranging from $750 – $2,000.
- Resource-Limited Travel Awards – help defray the costs of ASHG Annual Meeting participation for those who would not otherwise have the funds to attend and participants residing in areas categorized by the World Bank as having low-income or lower-middle-income economies.
If you’re looking to grow your network and advance your career, in-person networking events are a great place to start. You can meet new people, learn about new opportunities, build relationships, and get inspired. The ASHG Annual Meeting has many kinds of opportunities to network: luncheons, SIG meetups, receptions, ancillary events, and exhibitor events are all great places to expand your network!

ASHG strives to make its Annual Meetings as affordable as possible, so various registration rates are offered to ease the financial burden. We recommend registering before the early deadline on August 6 at 5pm ET to take advantage of the lowest rates. Becoming a member of ASHG will save you even more! The regular member registration rate saves you up to $400 – that’s more than the cost of membership itself!
Other ways to reduce costs for attendance include:
- Booking your flight and making your hotel reservations early to take advantage of lower rates.
- Consider reaching out to colleagues attending so you can consider sharing a room.
Please review our blog post for additional ways to save.
Make a strong case for attending ASHG 2025 by explicitly connecting your institution’s goals, as well as your work and professional development, to the educational opportunities offered by using ASHG’s return on investment toolkit.
We want you to be comfortable so you can enjoy your meeting experience. Business casual dress is strongly encouraged. We suggest bringing a light sweater or jacket with you during the day because meeting rooms are air-conditioned, and comfortable shoes since convention centers are large and may require a lot of walking.
