ASHG Announces 2025 Society Journal Award Recipients

Each year, editors of The American Journal of Human Genetics (AJHG) and Human Genetics and Genomics Advances (HGG Advances) recognize trainees and early career investigators for outstanding scientific contributions to the field of human genetics and genomics.

We’re excited to announce the recipients of the 2025 awards for outstanding publications.

Recipients will be recognized at the 2025 Annual Meeting in Boston during the Awards Ceremony on Thursday, October 16 at 4:30-5:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time.

AJHG Award for Outstanding Trainee Publication

This award recognizes research excellence from ASHG members who are completing their doctoral or postdoctoral training.

The 2025 award recipients are:

Yu Fu, MSc, Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland, HiLIFE, University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland

Paper: “Role of X chromosome and dosage-compensation mechanisms in complex trait genetics

 

Maria Francis Palafox, PhD, University of California, Los Angeles

Paper: “Prioritizing disease-associated missense variants with chemoproteomic-detected amino acids

 


HGG Advances Early Career Investigator Award

This award recognizes research excellence from ASHG members who have recently begun their independent research careers.

The 2025 award recipients are:

Maria Gutierrez-Arcelus, PhD, Boston Children’s Hospital

Paper: “Functional genomics implicates natural killer cells in the pathogenesis of ankylosing spondylitis

 

Hye In Kim, PhD, Pfizer

Paper: “Common genetic modifiers influence cardiomyopathy susceptibility among the carriers of rare pathogenic variants
