The program is designed to provide training in basic human biology and in the methodologies applicable to the study of human and medical genetics. Formal course work in basic sciences (biochemical genetics, human genetics, molecular biology, development, and cell biology) and in biotechnology areas (recombinant DNA laboratory, human and mammalian cytogenetics, immunobiology, immunogentics, DNA-protein interactions, informational macromolecules laboratory) is provided by a diverse teaching and research faculty. Modern Core facilities for Cell and molecular biology, Electron and confocal microscopy, and transgenic/knockout mice enrich the program. Cooperative undertakings of adjunct professors in clinical genetic services at the Medical Center of Delaware and the industrial resources in mutagenesis and genetic toxicology at the DuPont Haskell Laboratory are utilized in the program. Excellent libraries, laboratories and computer facilities provide opportunities for a research experience tailored to individual interests and future goals.
