The Clinical Genetics Service and the Cytogenetics Service of the Department of Medicine at MSKCC, along with other affiliated laboratories, provide clinical and research training in human genetics, with a primary focus on cancer genetics. MSKCC is a comprehensive cancer center consisting of Memorial Hospital and the Sloan-Kettering Institute; it is affiliated with Weill Medical College of Cornell University. The Clinical Genetics Service sees over 800 patients/year for cancer predisposition, and the Cytogenetics Service studies over 1400 tumor samples/year. In Clinical Molecular Genetics, over 3000 samples/year are tested for acquired or constitutional cancer-related genetic alterations in two clinical laboratories. Research training, either doctoral or postdoctoral, is available in four major areas: oncogenesis, genetic susceptibility to cancer, animal models of human cancer, and gene transfer for cancer gene therapy. Applicants interested in postdoctoral research fellowships should contact individual lab heads directly.

The ABMG-accredited program in Clinical Laboratory Genetics (contact: Dr. M. Ladanyi) is open to postdoctoral research fellows at MSKCC and New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Trainees interested in the ACGME-accredited program in Clinical Genetics (contact: Dr. K. Offit) at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital should see the separate program description listed under New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Medical College of Cornell University in this directory.
