We have training programs for 1) MS degrees in Genetic Counseling, and 2) MD-postdoctoral programs leading to ABMG board eligibility in Clinical Genetics, Combined Pediatrics/Medical Genetics, Combined Internal Medicina/Medical Genetics and 3) PhD-postdoctoral programs leading to ABMG board eligibility in clinical cytogenetics, clinical biochemical genetics, and clinical molecular genetics, as well as straight research postodoctoral fellowships in specific areas of genetics and genomic sciences including opportunities in gene discovery, pharmacogenetics, cancer genetics, prenatal diagnosis, biochemical and molecular genetics, cytogenetics, clinical research, and others. US citizens may qualify for support on NIH training grants, while successful foreign fellows are supported by Departmental, Principal Investigators, or other funds. All departmental trainees participate in the weekly Departmental seminars, research conferences and journal clubs. The Masters degree in Genetic Counseling is a 19-month program that includes didactic coursework and clinical placements and leads to board eligibility in genetic counseling. Large subspecialty programs in lysosomal diseases, cancer genetics, and metabolic disorders provide unique clinical training opportunities.
