The graduate program in human genetics offers training in the areas of statistical, biochemical, molecular, and medical genetics. Students learn research skills and appropriate counseling and management techniques for genetic diseases. Relevant courses are available in both the Department of Genetics and other departments of the LSU Health Sciences Center, particularly the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Gene Therapy Program. Graduates of the doctoral program will be qualified to apply for accredited fellowship training programs to become eligible for certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics.
