Predoctoral education in human genetics is provided through the Cell and Molecular Biology Graduate Group, an interdisciplinary graduate program. The faculty participating in human genetics graduate education hold appointments in several departments and schools at the University of Pennsylvania, including the Departments of Genetics, Pediatrics, and Biology, and the Veterinary School and the affiliated Wistar Institute. Non-U.S. citizens are supported by University sources. Graduate students take courses in human genetics and in various aspects of molecular and cell biology, as well as participating in seminars and literature clubs. Doctoral research emphasizing modern molecular biological methods may be carried out in the laboratories of more than 100 faculty members whose research spans the major areas of human genetics.
