The Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana provides a broad-based program for M.D. and Ph.D. postdoctoral fellows, Ph.D. students, M.S. students, and M.S. genetic counselors. The program, established over 40 years ago, has over 300 former trainees worldwide. Faculty members have primary appointments in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics, but also have appointments in Biochemistry, Medicine, Neurology, Oral-Facial Development, Pathology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Psychology thereby providing the opportunity for a wide range of training and research opportunities in the rapidly changing field of human genetics. The program offers coursework in clinical, molecular, cytogenetic and population genetics. All students and fellows may gain experience in clinical genetics, as well as the opportunity to participate in numerous specialty clinics. Established in 1991, the M.S. genetic counseling program has trained over 70 genetic counselors.
