Twenty one participating full time faculty members and associates hold appointments in the Departments of Biochemistry, Medicine, Nutrition, Obstetrics, Pathology and Pediatrics. The Faculty includes individual certified by the ABMG and/or RCPSC/CCMG in clinical, molecular and biochemical genetics and in cytogenetics. The program offers a full range of courses and seminars leading to the masters and Ph.D. degrees, and provides pre- and postdoctoral research and training opportunities in biochemical genetics, clinical genetics, molecular genetics and prenatal diagnosis. The program allows graduate trainees to obtain a meaningful exposure to clinical genetics on ward rounds and in genetic counseling sessions. Traines also interact with Ph.D. geneticists and biochemists in formal courses, research projects and during other activities of the Medical Genetics program. The service participates in the Quebec Medical Genetics Network which is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment and follow up of conditions detected by newborn screening. Trainees are exposed to a full range of tertiary medicine, both in the adjacent Ste-Justine Hospital, which is the designated referal center for child and fetal health of University of Montreal and one of the largest pediatric and obstetrical Center in Canada, and in affiliated hospitals of the University of Montreal network.
