| The training program is based at Maimonides Medical Center, a 705-bed facility affiliated with the State University of New York Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn. Maimonides is the third largest academic medical center in the country among private not-for-profit hospitals. Located in Southwest Brooklyn, the surrounding community is rich in racial and ethno-cultural diversity. The program is designed in collaboration with the Departments of OB/GYN, Pathology, the New York State Institute of Basic Research (NYSIBR), and the Pediatrics Departments at Lutheran, The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, and Coney Island Hospitals through the Brooklyn Children's Center. The emphasis of the program is on clinical genetics, dysmorphology, cytogenetics, and genetic counseling. Cytogenetics and molecular laboratory facilities are located at Maimonides and NYSIBR. The program provides outstanding opportunities for clinical experience, exposure to prenatal genetics services, academic research, and working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. | |
