The Genetics Program at the University of Missouri-Columbia offers graduate education and training leading to the PhD degree. It is a multidisciplinary program that includes over 60 faculty members from 14 different Life Sciences Departments. Grounded in the traditions that Louis Stadler and Barbara McClintock first established during their tenures at the University of Missouri, the genetics faculty is a broadly based cooperative group. They address current research frontiers at all levels of biological organization, using animal, plant, and microbial systems. Research areas include: aging, bioinformatics, cancer, cellular signaling/transduction, crop improvement, developmental genetics, disease resistance, evolution, hormonal regulation, human genomics and disease, imaging, immunobiology, maize, membrane biology, microarray, microbial genomics, molecular genetics, neuroscience, nutrition, pathogenesis, plant genomics, plant/insect interactions, plant microbe interactions, proteomics, reproductive biology, structural, trangenics, viral genetics. The Program enjoys support from participating departments, the Graduate School, and the Office of Research. All admitted students receive financial aid.
