A combined genetic fellowship training program is offered by the University of Medicine & Dentistry at the New Jersey Medical School. An MD clinical fellowship involves extensive experience in clinical genetics, dysmorphology and prenatal diagnosis with attendance at specialty clinics in metabolic disorders, birth defects and single gene disorders (hemoglobin, hemophilia, PKU, cystic fibrosis and Huntington disease). Such clinical fellows will be required to take a miminum of two didactic courses in basic genetics. PHD genetic fellowship training is available in cytogenetics, molecular and biochemical genetics. Full-time faculty accredited in all areas of genetics provide preceptorship for the fellows. All candidates will be expected to undertake clinical and/or basic research programs as part of this two-year fellowship.
