The Department of Genetics at Yale University School of Medicine offers doctoral and postdoctoral training programs in genetics. Both programs are strongly oriented toward research, with opportunities to participate in a wide array of projects ranging from basic molecular, cellular, and developmental genetics to the study of inherited diseases using biochemical, cytogenetics and recombinant DNA techniques.

The postdoctoral program supports medical specialists who have completed most of their clinical training and seek at least two years of research-oriented training in human genetics. The heart of this program is participation in a laboratory research project, and the faculty support a broad variety of research areas. Candidates seeking board eligibility in clinical genetics as well as research training will spend most of their first year in clinical training followed by at least 2 years of concentrated research time. A rich variety of cases representing diverse prenatal pediatric and adult genetic issues are seen throughout the clinical training period. The postdoctoral program will also accept a limited number of Ph.D. candidates seeking training in a clinical laboratory specialty.
