The training program seeks to provide physicians with a broad exposure to both clinical and laboratory genetics. Patient and family contact occur in multiple clinics throughout the Washington University Medical School campus, on the inpatient divisions of several affiliated hospitals and at surrounding medical centers. The first 18 months of the residency are primarily involved with clinical and clinical laboratory services. Didactic courses of an advanced nature are provided within the division and as part of excellent intramural programs. The second half of the second year and all of the third year are directed at a focused area of investigative interest. Opportunities for basic and clinical biomedical research abound throughout the Washington University campus. Opportunities for teaching medical students and postgraduates are provided in the second and third years
