SOCIETY OFFICES AND SERVICES

  ASHG Society and Membership Office - Room 150E

The ASHG Society and Membership Office is open Tuesday through Friday from 7:45 AM until 5:00 PM and on Saturday from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM . Membership information, sample Society publications, and forms for CME and CEU are available.

  American Board of Genetic Counseling, American Board of Medical Genetics, and American College of Medical Genetics - Room 150E

The ABGC, ABMG and ACMG offices are located in Room 150E (within the ASHG Society and Membership Office). Hours for each of these organizations will be posted inside the office.

  Logistics/Meeting Management Office - Room 150C

The Meeting Logistics Management Office is open on Tuesday and Wednesday, from 7:30 AM until 6:00 PM, on Thursday and Friday from 7:30 AM until 5:00 PM and on Saturday, from 7:30 AM until 3:00 PM. Questions regarding housing, ancillary meetings, audio-visual, on-site logistics and lost-and-found should be directed to the Logistics/Meeting Management Office.

  Registration Management Office/Registration Help Desk - South Foyer

The Registration Office is open on Tuesday from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM, on Wednesday from 7:30 AM until 6:00 PM, on Thursday and Friday from 7:45 AM until 5:00 PM, and on Saturday from 7:45 AM until 12:00 noon. Questions regarding advance registration and on-site registration should be directed to the Registration Management Office/Registration Help Desk in the Registration Area, South Foyer.

  Exhibit Management Office - Hall D

The Exhibit Management Office is located inside the entrance to exhibits in Hall D of the Salt Palace Convention Center and will be open for exhibitors from Wednesday through Friday.

  Press Interview Room and Press Office - Room 254A and Room 254B

Complimentary meeting registration is available for media representatives with appropriate identification. Members of the press should report to Room 254B to register and receive a meeting press badge, program publications and news releases. The Press Office is open on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM, on Wednesday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM, and on Saturday, from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Press conferences and interviews for selected lecturers who have been invited to meet the press are scheduled in Room 254A.

  Business Center - Upper Level

The Salt Palace Convention Center has a permanent Business Center located on the Upper Level. The Business Service Center will be open as follows: Tuesday from 8:30 AM until 6:00 PM, Wednesday through Friday from 7:30 AM until 6:00 PM, and Saturday from 8:30 AM until 12:00 noon.

Services at the Salt Palace Business Center include copying, printing, faxing, Internet access, shipping, and office supplies. Wireless Internet is also available for $14.95/day in the public concourse areas of the Convention Center. It is not avaliable in session rooms or in the Exhibit Hall. A 24 hour/7 days a week Kinko's is located at 19 East 200 South. The telephone number is (801) 533-9444.

The following ASHG hotels also have business centers: Grand America, Hilton, Little America, Marriott Downtown, and Sheraton City Center. The business centers hve general copying and faxing capabilities, and all have Internet accessibility. All business centers are open Monday through Friday, with varying weekend hours.

  Message Center/Housing Inquiries/Attendee Information - South Foyer

The message center, housing inquiry desk, and attendee information desk are located in the South Foyer.

  Luggage Storage/Coat Check - South Foyer, Room 150B

Facilities for luggage storage and coat check are available in Room 105B of the Convention Center from Wednesday at 7:45 AM until Saturday at 6:00 PM. There is a charge of $2 per item. Please do not take luggage into the session rooms or ask ASHG staff to store it in Society offices.

    Individuals Requiring Assistance

All Salt Lake City restaurants, hotels and places of interest are accessible. Convention Center Facility ADA Accessibility Information:

The Salt Palace Convention Center meets all ADA requirements. A few of these details are listed below.

  • Braille shown on all direction signage
     
  • Handicapped parking is available and provides easy access in and out of the facility
     
  • Walkways, curbs and ramps are stable, firm, and relatively non-slip under all weather conditions.
     
  • Several building entrances are automatic and operate in a manner and direction that does not present a danger to the guest.
     
  • Public bathrooms in the center are all ADA compliant and provide one wheelchair accessible stall per bathroom.
     
  • Elevators operate to all levels of the facility
     
  • Several public telephones and water fountains throughout the center are accessible to wheelchair level
     
  • Meeting rooms are centrally located to prevent undue problems for persons with mobility limitations
     

Salt Lake City Hotel ADA Information:

All of the hotels in the ASHG hotel block are in compliance with current ADA regulations some hotels offer more disability amenities than others. Salt Lake City ADA Accessibility Information:

The city provides easy access for all residents and tourists. The Salt Lake City Transportation System, TRAX Light Rail, provides ramp access and designated wheelchair parking inside each train and all city buses have wheelchair lifts or ramps.

All city streets feature chirping cross walks and truncated domes leading to the crosswalks. Salk Lake City also has several notable downtown restaurants that provide Braille menus. All restaurants are accessible.

  Family Room - Room 151C

Room 151C is set with a changing area and lounge seating to provide a quiet area where babies may be nursed. Hours are:

  Prayer Room - Chequers Room

This room has been set aside for prayer and will be open throughout the meeting.

  First Aid Room - Across from Room 150A

Located across from Room 150A, the First Aid Room is staffed from Monday, October 24, through Saturday, October 29, with an emergency medical nurse trained to handle various medical problems and emergencies that could arise in the Convention Center. The nurse will be equipped with first aid supplies including oxygen/resuscitator, splints, stretcher and an automated external defibrillator (AED), as well as general items such as aspirin.

  Restaurant and City Information - South Foyer

A city information and restaurant reservation service desk will be located in the South Ballroom Foyer during registration hours. Staff will make recommendations for restaurants and confirm reservations while you wait. Restaurant guides are also available for individuals who wish to make their own dining arrangements. City maps and brochures on local attractions also are available.

  Food Service

Concessions will be open in Exhibit Hall D during exhibit hours, Wednesday through Friday. The food service offers continental breakfast, hot foods, sandwiches, salads, light snacks and beverages. The Quick Quisine will also be open on Wednesday through Saturday, offering a variety of "grab and go" foods. A full list of selections can be found on the ASHG Web site and in the Program Addendum.

  Parking

The Salt Palace Convention Center has three levels of covered parking and one outdoor parking lot. The covered parking has elevator access from the garage to the Salt Palace Convention Center. The parking garage entrance is located on 200 South at the corner of 200 West. Parking is available seven days a week.   Gratuities

A 15%-20% tip or gratuity generally should be added to taxi fares and restaurant checks (unless the restaurant has already added the gratuity to your check). Bellmen, door attendants, porters, skycaps, etc., at hotels, airports and railway stations are usually tipped $1.50-$2.00 per piece of luggage. Hotel personnel who provide daily housekeeper service to your room are often tipped $2.00 per night for the number of nights staying in the hotel. The tip is left in the hotel room daily.
