Genomic Medicine Education Consortium (GMEC)

Mission

To support the development and implementation of genomics education for non-genetics health professionals

Description

Genomic testing and genome-based therapeutics have the potential to transform medicine and improve patient health outcomes. A substantial barrier, however, is that practitioners lack access to sound, objective education developed by highly respected independent sources that can help them implement genomic medicine most effectively. To ease this integration, the board of directors of the American Society of Human Genetics approved a strategic initiative—and devoted substantial internal resources—to accelerate the education of non-genetics health professionals. GMEC leverages that commitment by enlisting additional support from like-minded partners in the diagnostics, drug development, and related healthcare industries.
