Networking Opportunities

ASHG offers great networking opportunities at its Annual Meeting.

ASHG Early-Career Meet & Greet

This event provides dedicated time for trainees to network with other meeting attendees at similar stages in their careers. An informal pub trivia game makes it easy to make new friends and meet potential collaborators. Trainees at any level, and with a research or clinical focus, are encouraged to attend. This event is held on the first day of the meeting so that trainees can continue their acquaintances over the course of the meeting. Hors d'oeuvres and one drink ticket is included.

ASHG Trainee-Mentor Lunch

This event provides a wonderful opportunity for trainees to meet and talk informally with two mentors (representing different career stages) within a a particular field about the direction of the field, as well as career options, goals, and professional opportunities. Tables are organized by topic categories, such as bioinformatics and genomic technology, clinical genetics and dysmorphology, and epigenetics. The luncheon is held at the beginning of the meeting so that trainees can continue their discussions with these mentors at other times during the course of the meeting. Trainees at any level, and with a research or clinical focus, are encouraged to attend. Lunch is included.

ASHG Reception: Career Paths in Genetics

Formerly named the "ASHG Trainee Networking Reception", this event is organized by the ASHG Training and Development Committee and was offered for the first time as a stand-alone event at the 2013 meeting. Potential employers and experienced members of the Society representing a wide range of careers, both in traditional research and medicine-oriented fields, and in non-traditional fields such as intellectual property law, science policy, and science education, are on hand to speak with trainees in an informal atmosphere. This event is organized as a standing reception to encourage mingling and networking with as many people as possible. Appetizers and drinks are served.
