Medical Degree DO/MD:

Physician/Clinical Geneticist

Physicians are medical doctors who manage the health of patients. They must successfully complete medical school, pass either the US Medical Licensing Examination or the US Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination, and complete a residency in order to obtain a full medical license. There are particular medical specialties, such as pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology, that necessitate familiarity with genetics.  In addition, physicians interested in specializing in genetics can become Clinical Geneticists by completing a residency and becoming certified in clinical genetics.  Physicians and Clinical Geneticists work in hospitals, health centers, and private practice.
