DEADLINE: December 4th, 2015 at 11:59 PM (U.S. Eastern Time)

ASHG is accepting proposals for Invited Workshops for the 2016 Annual Meeting in Vancouver, Canada. The meeting will be held October 18-22, 2016.

Definition of a Workshop:

An ASHG Invited Workshop is an educational or instructional event that relates to scientific scholarship, research tools, new technologies, skill development, or public information related to science. The purpose of the Invited Workshops is to provide ASHG membership and Annual Meeting attendees with programs of relevance and value. Please note: Commercial workshops are not eligible.

Criteria the Program Committee will use for evaluating proposals:

  1. The need for the workshop and value to meeting attendees;
  2. Workshop content and plans for evaluation;
  3. The likely impact of the workshop;
  4. The ability to accommodate workshops in available rooms;
  5. The number of times ASHG has hosted the workshop (or similar ones);
  6. The balance of topics within the set of workshops to be offered (e.g., clinical, basic science, trainee development, etc.);
  7. The cost to ASHG to offer the workshop.

  1. All requests for invited workshops must be submitted online by December 4, 2015.
  2. The proposals will be reviewed and selected by the 2016 Program Committee.
  3. The proposer must be a current ASHG member.
  4. Accepted workshops will be scheduled on Tuesday — Friday (morning or evening slots, subject to change by the Program Committee). Requests for specific dates and times will be considered, but are not guaranteed. Workshops may not overlap with scientific or poster sessions.
  5. ASHG seeks to promote training in new technologies and may support certain workshops more than once. However, invited workshops chosen in a given year are not guaranteed for acceptance in subsequent years. Developers of successful recurrent workshops are encouraged to seek outside support in order to transition to ancillary slots.
  6. ASHG will cover the cost of room set up, audiovisual equipment, appropriate refreshments/lunch, and appropriate internet requirements for the workshop.
  7. ASHG will not cover travel expenses for proposers or speakers. However, complimentary registration for up to two speakers is provided.
  8. Workshops will be assigned to meeting space in either the Vancouver Convention Center or the headquarter hotel.
  9. Workshops will be 1.5 hours (90 minutes) in length.
  10. Proposers will be notified of acceptance in April of 2016.
  11. If a workshop is accepted, registrants will be charged a small fee to attend (typically $15-$25, depending on workshop time and equipment needs). Non-registrants are not permitted to attend workshops.
