Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of the ASHG Program Committee and Board of Directors, we invite you to submit your research abstracts for presentation and to register to attend the 64th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics, which will be held from Saturday, October 18, through Wednesday, October 22, 2014 in San Diego, California.

The 2014 Annual Meeting will continue ASHG’s tradition of presenting both the highest-quality science and the latest information covering the broad diversity of human genetics. We encourage you to invite your colleagues to attend. We believe that experts from other disciplines will greatly enhance the scientific, educational, and social interactions at the meeting.

The meeting begins at 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 18, with the presidential address by Cynthia C. Morton, which will be followed by the plenary abstract session. The scientific program consists of 16 invited sessions, 400 abstract-driven platform sessions, and thousands of poster presentations. A distinguished speakers’ symposium highlighting challenges and opportunities presented by big data in the genomics era has been scheduled for Sunday morning.  This symposium, entitled Separating Signal From Noise, will feature speakers from Google Ventures, IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, and the CDC.

We are introducing many new initiatives this year, including a joint symposium with the European Society of Human Genetics on uncertainty in genomic sequencing, a joint satellite symposium with the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, poster walks, featured abstract-driven plenary sessions on Monday and Tuesday morning, and the Genetics Portrait Project/Interactive Art Exhibit, which uses art to explore current perceptions of genetics research and its implications for the future.

Further information on the benefits of registration can be found here. We look forward to receiving your abstracts and to welcoming you to San Diego for the ASHG 2014 Meeting.

Sincerely yours,

Andy McCallion, PhD
ASHG 2014 Program Chair

Cynthia Morton, PhD
