ASHG’S Annual Meeting and the Government Shutdown

Bethesda, Maryland, 9 October 2013

With its annual meeting two weeks away, the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) is making contingency plans to deal with the implications of the ongoing shutdown of the federal government.

We are monitoring the situation closely and are hoping for the best, but we are operating under the assumption that the shutdown will continue through the Boston meeting (22-26 October).

If the shutdown continues through the meeting, the likely impact on our program would be as follows:

  • unable to attend: 7 invited speakers, 13 speakers in platform sessions, 11 session moderators, and 115 poster presenters.

  • cancelled: NCBI workshop on navigating clinical genomic resources (200 attendees). We will communicate separately with ticket holders for this workshop with alternative options.

  • cancelled: 4 NIH exhibit booths.

During the meeting itself, we will remind participants of the reason for absences and cancellations.

If you would like to leave a message for ASHG staff, or talk to a staff member about the impact of the shutdown on the Boston meeting, please call the following number: 301.634.7302.
