Trainee Professional Development/Job Skills Events

Trainee Development Program and Networking Session

Thursday, November 8
7:00 pm – 9:30pm

Separate advance registration required. Check the appropriate box on the meeting registration form.

This event is organized by the ASHG Professional Development Committee, which is composed of trainees. This year’s program will focus on science and public policy: Why should scientists care about and become active in public policy involving science? The answer in short is: because policy affects many issues in our professional and personal lives. Consider the effect of constrained budgets on research funding, or how consensus science, such as vaccines and evolution, have become “controversial” with much of the public. Come engage in a discussion and see how you might engage with policy in ways that advance research, medicine, education, etc. A networking session follows the formal program.

FASEB Career/Employment Center

Career resources and employment opportunities will be offered in partnership with the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB). A career center will also be open in the Exhibit Hall during exhibit hours. Coaches will be available to give attendees career guidance, provide interview tips, and critique resumes or CVs. Further details about career and employment opportunities will be available in August 2012.
