Meeting Objective/Target Audience
The objective of this meeting is to provide a forum for the exchange of new resear
by scientists and investigators. At the completion of this meeting, participants sho
be able to:
1. discuss the research underway and/or the current topics relevant to their are
of interest in genetics;
2. demonstrate an increased level of insight into the methods being used
researchers and practitioners in their fields; and
3. describe a personal exposure to several stimulating areas of inquiry with speak
and presenters in related areas.
This meeting is targeted to clinical practitioners, research scientists, and medi
education professionals.
Disclosure Policy
The American Society of Human Genetics has implemented a process where everyo
who is in a position to influence and/or control the content of a continuing educati
activity must disclose all relevant financial relationships with any commercial inter
and any conflicts of interest must be resolved prior to the activity. Participants
educational programs must be informed of an organizer’s and/or a presente
academic and professional affiliation and the existence of any relevant financ
relationship a presenter has with any proprietary entity producing health care goo
or services consumed by, or used on patients, with the exemption of non-profit
government organizations and non-health care related companies. The intent of t
disclosure is not to prevent a speaker from making a presentation. This policy allo
the listener/attendee to be fully knowledgeable in evaluating the information bei
presented.
Disclosure includes any relationship that may bias the planning of the continui
education activity or may bias one’s presentation or which, if known, could give t
perception of bias. These situations may include, but are not limited to: 1) sto
options or bond holdings in a for-profit corporation or self-directed pension plan;
research grants, other grants, scholarships, or fellowships; 3) employment (full or pa
time); 4) ownership or partnership; 5) consulting fees or other remuneration; 6) no
remunerative positions of influence such as officer, board member, trustee, or pub
spokesperson; 7) receipt of royalties; 8) speakers’ bureau; 9) receive substantial i
kind or donation goods or services; 10) inventory/patent owner; 11)advisor;
collaboration; 13) company owner; 14) receipt of travel grants/honoraria. For full-ti
employees of industry or government, the affiliation listed in the Programwill constit
full disclosure.
Members of the ICHG Program Committee indicated a relationship which could
perceived by some as a real or apparent conflict of interest in planning the invit
sessions. In these cases, the committee members refrained from the discussion.
