The 12th International Congress of Human Genetics (ICHG), hosted by the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG), is seeking applications for travel awards from meeting participants from the International Federation of Human Genetics (IFHGS) member societies, non-member societies, and developing countries. Please read the information below for further details about the different awards, their eligibility criteria, and how to apply.

Congress Awards

Deadline: June 2, 2011

The Scientific Program Committee on behalf of the Congress is providing several travel awards to young scientists (students/trainees only) who are first authors on an abstract submitted for the Congress (by the June 2 deadline). To be considered for one of these awards, please check the appropriate box on the abstract submission form. Congress travel award applicants may also apply for one of the developing country scholarship awards (if they are eligible).

Notification: Award winners will be notified by the Congress office in mid-August. Funds will be distributed to all recipients in Montreal.

IFHGS Society Awards

Deadline: June 2, 2011

Several IFHGS member societies are offering travel awards for the Congress, which will be administered by representatives of the participating societies who serve on the Scientific Program Committee. In order to be considered for one of these awards, you must: (1) be a member of the Society sponsoring the award; (2) be a first author on an abstract submitted to the Congress (check the appropriate box on the abstract submission form); (3) plan to attend the Congress and present your work. Each Society has separate eligibility criteria. Therefore, please read the information below to determine which award to apply for.

Note: All abstracts that are not selected for a “Society” award will automatically be entered into the selection pool for a Congress Award.

American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) Trainee Research Awards

Eighty-four (84) awards designated for American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) trainees will be given across several categories: basic research, clinical research and translational research. If you are not a current trainee member of ASHG, click HERE for the membership application. Trainee award applicants may not be more than six years in postdoctoral training and must have performed a major portion of the work discussed in the abstract submitted to the Congress. In order to be considered for this award, you must submit an abstract by the June 2, 2011 deadline.

Review Process: First, the abstracts will be reviewed and scored. The top abstracts (a total of 84) will be selected as semifinalists and will be awarded $400 each (mailed in advance of the meeting). Second, the Awards Committee will review the semifinalist abstracts and will select the top eighteen finalists. These eighteen finalists will also receive complimentary registration. Out of the eighteen finalists, six winners will receive an additional $300 (which will be distributed in Montreal).
