Distinguished Speakers' Symposium

Human geneticists have successfully identified the underlying sequence alterations that cause most Mendelian disorders and are starting to unravel the molecular basis of common complex diseases. However, it is clear that a full understanding of disease pathogenesis and possible routes to treatment will require a much broader and in-depth description of genetic interactions. Systems biology is beginning to describe the complex networks that drive these fundamental biological processes. In this session, four distinguished investigators from the field of systems biology will describe how information from model organisms and human disease states can aid our understanding of how complex gene networks are constructed and regulated.

FASEB Career Networking Reception & Job Fair

The Career Networking Reception will be held in the Pennsylvania Convention Center (Grand Hall). Employment services will be available throughout the meeting.A Virtual Career Fair (before, during and after the meeting) Computer-assisted registration, ‘search-and-referral’ services, interview scheduling and message services, On-site interview facilities, ‘Position Available’ posting area (unlimited postings included with Employer Registration), Career Counselors available on-site to assist with CV/resume critiques and development, Message center for applicants and employers, Careers Online Applicant Data, Net Registration (year round applicant resume referrals).

High School Student/Teacher Workshop

250 students and teachers from the Philadelphia area will spend a full day at the Philadelphia Convention Center on Friday, November 14. The Workshop will consist of multiple interactive sessions, including a DNA extraction and an experiment that covers the genetics of the senses. Students and teachers will also have the opportunity to explore conservation genetics, stem cells, collecting their family history and newborn screening in a number of break-out sessions.

Undergraduate Workshop

Fifty genetics educators will have a full-day workshop concentrating on improving pedagogical approaches to teaching genetics to undergraduates and similar audiences.

Trainee-Mentor Luncheon

A wonderful opportunity for trainees (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and clinical fellows) in the field of human genetics to chat informally with senior members of the Society about career goals and options. Wednesday, November 12

Trainee Networking Reception

This event is designed for trainees specifically interested in learning more about different careers in genetics and networking with individuals in those careers. This session will have a keynote speaker who will discuss negotiation skills, a panel of genetics professionals that will provide hints for trainees looking for non-traditional careers, and a one-hour networking session where trainees can discuss career options over dessert and drinks with individuals representing more than 10 different fields.

Wifi Connection in Convention Center

Sponsorship provides free wireless access in designated areas of the building. In addition to having access in all free hotspots, the paid network provides wireless coverage in all public lobbies, in the Overlook Café and in the Grand Hall. Support will be acknowledged at the multiple access points, on the splash page of their laptops and on sponsorship signage throughout the Center.

Headquarter Hotel Key Cards

Your company logo along with the ASHG logo will be imprinted on each hotel key card used by every one of our conference attendees staying at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel (the Headquarter Hotel) where close to 1,500 attendees will be staying. The keys are the first sponsored item received by attendees and the last item they use before heading home. The keys provide 24-hour exposure for your message throughout the entire meeting and are used multiple times daily. Each guest will receive two cards giving your company great visibility among attendees.
