Fire Safety Requirements

All exhibitors and their service contractors must comply with all applicable Federal, State, and municipal laws, operating guidelines and all other rules and requirements of the Pennsylvania Police and Fire departments or any other municipal authorities, including local fire and building codes that apply to public assembly facilities. It is your responsibility and duty to be aware of all fire and safety requirements during your tenure as an exhibitor. A full-time Fire Marshal is assigned to the PCCA by the City of Philadelphia to insure compliance.

 

SMOKING

The Pennsylvania Convention Center is a non-smoking facility. Smoking is not permitted in any interior
areas of the building. This includes the exhibit halls, ballroom, rest rooms, lobbies, corridors and meeting rooms.
 

EXITS

For your safety, exit doors may not be obstructed. Exit doors shall not be locked, blocked or held open,
Nothing shall be placed within 15 feet of a means of egress doorway. Exit signs shall not be obstructed
from view by booths, decorations or any other objects or hanging materials.
 

EXHIBITION BOOTH CONSTRUCTION AND DECORATIONS

Exhibition booths shall be constructed of noncombustible or limited-combustible materials. Wood shall be greater than 1/4 inch nominal thickness or wood not greater than 1/4 inch thickness shall be treated fire retardant wood meeting the requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard 703. Other combustible materials shall be flame resistant in accordance with NFPA 701 for textiles and films, and Underwriters Laboratories (U.L.) 1975 for foamed plastics.

Explosives, including the performance of live pyrotechnic or fireworks displays are prohibited.

No flammable or combustible liquids, propane or liquefied petroleum gases shall be used or admitted inside the facility.

No open flame devices, lanterns or candles are permitted.

All appliances fired by natural gas shall be approved by the Fire Prevention Officer.

No spray painting is allowed on the PCCA premises. Pressurized containers having flammable propellants are prohibited, except by written approval from the Fire Department.

No merchandise, materials, or signs shall be attached to, hung, or draped over fire-resistive side and rear divider of booths, or attached to table skirting facing aisles.

No glitter or confetti may be used in any areas of the building.
Adhesive backed decals/stickers (except for name tags) may not be used or distributed on the premises.

Helium balloons may not be distributed in the PCC. However, Helium balloons may be used if permanently attached to authorized displays and approved through your Event Coordinator. If helium balloons become detached from the display, the labor cost to retrieve the balloons will be charged to the Customer. A deposit may be required prior to installation.

 

FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT

Access to fire fighting equipment and view of accompanying signage shall not be obstructed by exhibition materials. A distance of five feet shall be maintained between fire protection equipment and exhibition material. This includes exhibit hall pillars, which house fire and electrical equipment.
 

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

Electrical equipment shall be listed equipment (U.L., F.M., etc.). Electrical wiring shall be in accordance with the National Electrical Code. 14 gauge wire or better is required for all connections. All extension cords must be 3 wire, grounded.
 

DISPLAY OF MOTOR VEHICLES

Vehicles on display shall not contain more than one-quarter (1/4) tank of fuel.
Gas caps must be locked.
All fuel tank openings shall be sealed to prevent the escape of vapors.
Both vehicles battery cables shall be disconnected and the ends taped.
Refueling or the removal of fuel from the vehicles on the premises is prohibited.
Vehicles shall not be moved during show hours.
During non-show hours, vehicles must be locked.
No repairs or alterations shall be made on vehicles while on the show floor.
Floors under the vehicle must be protected from any leakage, spillage or other potential damage.
A properly tagged set of extra keys must be left with the building in case of emergency.
 

LITERATURE

Literature on display shall be limited to a one day supply. Reserve supplies shall be kept in closed containers and stored in a neat and compact manner. Storage of any kind is prohibited behind the back drapes or display walls or inside display areas. All cartons, crates, containers, and packing materials that are necessary for repacking shall be labeled with "EMPTY" stickers and removed from the show floor. The PCCA will inspect all exhibits to ensure compliance.
